Combustion engines remain

Those who do not have a warm heart for the hybrid powertrains of current Formula 1 cars need not fear the complete disappearance of a combustion engine in Formula 1. Formula 1 will never switch to fully electric powertrains. That is what none other than F1 boss Stefano Domenicali says to the Italian Il Sole 24.
A lot has changed in Formula 1 in recent decades, especially in the field of engines. Not only have we seen the V12s and V10s give way to V8s, but the eight-cylinder even to small V6s that work together with a hybrid system. Anyone who thinks a Formula 1 car should have a combustion engine can breathe easy. Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali tells Italy’s Il Sole 24 that Formula 1 will never switch to fully electric powertrains.
Domenicali says that Formula 1 is developing an emission-free fuel that can be used in aircraft or boats in addition to Formula 1 cars. The F1 chief turns out not to be a big fan of the switch from combustion engines to electric powertrains. For example, Domenicali sneered at European politicians who “[…] setting impossible energy transition goals”.
