Just a little tweaking
The current Bentley Continental GT has been with us for about five years now and it seems that we can therefore welcome the facelifted version of that car later this year. Much will probably not change in terms of appearance with that facelift, the first spy pictures reveal. There may be more news under the skin.
When the current iteration of the Bentley Continental GT hit the market, it managed to get its hands together quite a bit. The first modern Continental GT and its radically facelifted variant were a huge success and the completely new one introduced in 2018 is immediately recognizable as the successor of the two, but still looks a lot more dynamic. At its introduction, Bentley showed off the techniques the brand used to fold quite sharp lines into the body. A carriage that as a whole is already a lot slimmer than before.
In addition, the driving characteristics of the current Continental GT fit well with its more dynamic shape. Thanks to the chassis techniques shared with the Porsche Panamera, the Bentley can be cornered a lot better than its predecessor, as we recently discovered. So there are not so many points for improvement for the facelift variant, Bentley must have thought. In any case, the first spy images of the car give no reason to expect that a major facelift is coming.
The grille and front bumper of the facelift Continental GT seem to be drawn marginally differently and the light units at the front and rear are given a different interpretation, but otherwise the appearance of the coupé does not seem to change, if at all. Although the radar for the driver assistance systems is in a different place and Bentley will certainly want to ensure that the new Continental GT can be distinguished from the old one, it is hardly clear how the brand wants to achieve this.
Soon also with plug-in V6, in addition to V8 and W12?
Under the hood, things could just change. Bentley may also come up with a (plug-in) hybrid variant of the Continental GT after the facelift, because the brand also supplies such a powertrain in the Flying Spur and Bentayga. In addition, the aforementioned shared platform with Porsche lends itself perfectly to such technology. In any case, from 2026 Bentley only wants to deliver electrified and fully electric cars, although it could just be that we will be presented with an entirely new Continental GT by then. In any case, the cars captured on the spy plates still ‘just’ have a V8 or W12 under the hood, as evidenced by the lack of an extra flap for a possible charging connection.
