After the regular Chevrolet Silverado, the larger and heavier Chevrolet Silverado HD is now also getting a facelift. It has a bit more to it than the ‘little’ brother, and means that the über-truck is slightly less clumsy for the day. Just something.

The regular Chevrolet Silverado, distinguished by the weight classification ‘1500’, was a pretty subtle facelift last year. The logo ended a little higher in the new grille, the headlights were placed a little lower. With the HD, for ‘Heavy Duty’, it’s a slightly different story. The Silverados in the 2500 and 3500 categories will get quite a different front, and that will be good news for many. The original is in fact so clumsy with the current generation that pictures are circulating on the internet that further expand the front that appears to be made up of an endless amount of layers. With its double-layered headlights and huge grille, Chevrolet seems to pull out all the stops on this vehicle to emphasize just how huge it is.

This is less the case with the new version. The stratification of the front has disappeared and the headlights and grille are now just one piece. The headlamps themselves are also less high and have striking, C-shaped daytime running lights. Another important visual novelty: the ‘Bowtie’ logo is probably back on all versions, where the brand name was first written large over the nose on many versions.

This is also the case at the rear, a striking step at a time when the deregistration of brand names is one of the biggest trends. Furthermore, the ass is a bit of a neglected child, as is often the case with pick-ups. It is striking that the Silverado 2500HD has taillights with notches, while the lighting units in the extra wide body of the 3500HD are more traditional in shape. However, this was also the case before.

The interior is also getting an update, especially in terms of infotainment. On a technical level, we can report that the 6.6-liter V8 Duramax diesel in the range, a true executioner, has received some extra power and torque. The animal now produces 476 hp and 1,322 Nm (!). An automatic 10-speed gearbox is now standard, whereas previously a six-speed gearbox was sometimes fitted. In addition to the diesel, there is of course also a petrol engine, a 6.6 liter eight-cylinder engine. That block is standard, the diesel an option.

A ‘Heavy Duty’ truck is mainly bought by people who really want to work with it, usually with heavy trailers. Chevrolet lends a hand in this area by installing new camera systems and other special aids, which should, among other things, facilitate reversing with trailers. In the case of this type of vehicle, this often concerns so-called ‘Gooseneck trailers’, copies that rest on a special connection in the body, ie like a semi-trailer. The Silverado HD may in the best case – the 3500HD ‘Dually’, with double air behind so – thick 9,000 kg tow.
