Mercedes-Benz is currently working on a refresh for the GLE. That the changes won’t be earth-shattering is apparent from how the prototype is packaged.
In this case, it concerns the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and GLE 63 Coupé, recognizable, among other things, by the Panamericana grille and the four large exhaust trim pieces in the rear bumper. Where a facelift usually consists of refreshing the front and rear bumper and the light units, with these prototypes only the light units are taped. The front and rear bumpers are identical to those of the current GLE 63. It is possible that the front bumper for the less favored models does undergo a renewal course, since the front of other prototypes was completely taped.
It is not yet entirely clear what the new light units of the GLE will look like. It is quite possible that the GLE follows the E-class in terms of the shape of the lighting. On the E-class, the headlamps are more rounded and the rear lights have been given a revised LED layout. The latter also seems plausible for the GLE: the shape of the rear lights does not appear to have changed in the photos, not even for the GLE Coupé. At the headlamps there seems to be one LED strip at the top for the daytime running lights, whereas with the current GLE there are two LED strips that divide the headlight.
So there seems to be relatively little new under the sun. This also applies to the interior, which, apart from an update to the infotainment system and a steering wheel that is in line with that of the other contemporary Mercedes, remains the same. The 4.0 biturbo V8 with a choice of 571 or 612 hp will most likely also return in the GLE 63. The facelifted GLE and GLE Coupé are planned for this year.
