Facelift for Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry has been facelifted. The sedan only available as a hybrid in Europe is being renewed both inside and out. In the spring of 2021, the facelifted Toyota Camry will be at the dealers.

Highlights

  • New front and slightly modified rear
  • New colors and fresh light metal
  • Revised interior with separate display
  • Same 218 hp 2.5 Hybrid powertrain
  • On the market in spring 2021

Earlier this year, Toyota in the United States carried out a facelift on the Camry. Now the version that is delivered in Europe has also changed. In the United States, the XSE version of the Camry is optically more or less similar to the appearance with which the Camry Hybrid is delivered in Europe. The American variant, presented in a renewed form in the middle of this year, already gave away how the revised Camry Hybrid would become in Europe.

The external adjustments are therefore not earth-shattering. The top cooling aperture, which houses the Toyota logo, is slightly different in shape. The spur below the Toyota emblem does not run deeper into the large lower grille. The top of that large cooling opening now runs in a straight horizontal line in the middle. New are the two extensions on the sides of the grille. The grille itself is available in both black and dark gray. Toyota is also making minor adjustments at the rear. The rear lights are slightly different than before and the rear bumper has also been adjusted in detail. Smaller exterior changes come in the form of new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the Camry Hybrid is now available in a new color: Deep Metal Gray.

Interior

Then the interior, because that has also been overhauled. New for the Camry Hybrid is the infotainment system’s display more or less protruding from the dashboard. The 7- or 9-inch screen, depending on the chosen version, is therefore no longer integrated into the center console like its predecessor. On either side of the screen are a series of physical shortcut keys, just like the displays in several other Toyota models. The infotainment system itself can now handle Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota also offers new seat covers in beige or black leather and other finishing materials for the dashboard.

Nothing changes in the powertrain, which means that the facelifted Toyota Camry Hybrid also has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that, together with the electric motor, delivers 218 hp of system power. Toyota is working on Toyota Safety Sense, the package of passive and active safety systems. For example, the Pre-Collision System has been expanded to include Emergency Steering Assist and Intersection Turn Assist. Also new: Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control. This system combines adaptive cruise control with traffic sign recognition and an improved version of Lane Trace Assist.

The modified Toyota Camry will be launched in the spring of 2021. Dutch prices are not yet available.
