The Volkswagen T-Cross is about to undergo a subtle refresh. In Brazil, our spy photographer came across a wrapped copy that indicates that Volkswagen’s smallest crossover in its ‘old guise’ does not have to last much longer.

Volkswagen expanded its cross range downwards in 2018 with the T-Cross. With the Volkswagen T-Cross, the Germans set their sights on the Renaults Captur of this world. The Volkswagen T-Cross has now been with us for 4.5 years, so it is not surprising that an updated version has been in the development rooms in Wolfsburg for some time.

These spy photos show a packed test sample of the renewed Volkswagen T-Cross. The fact that this prototype was photographed in Brazil raises some caveats. The T-Cross that Volkswagen do Brasil produces and sells locally is not identical to the model known here. The South American T-Cross, just like the T-Cross as it is sold in India and in two flavors in China, is one size larger than the European model. The Volkswagen T-Cross that you can buy in the Netherlands has a wheelbase of 2.55 meters and is about 4.10 meters long. Elsewhere in the world, the T-Cross – which is called Taigun in India and Tacqua in China – is about 4.20 meters long. The wheelbase of the extended T-Cross is 10 centimeters longer than that of the European version. In addition, there are also design differences between the European T-Cross, the Indian Taigun and the two Chinese versions.

It is therefore still too early to say what exactly will change for the European T-Cross. In any case, the snapped test model seems to have a modified bumper and a slightly modified grille. Volkswagen may add an LED strip to the upper grille in higher-positioned versions. That of the T-Cross does not seem to be as drastic as the facelift that Volkswagen carried out on the Polo in 2021.
