Still mysterious

BMW has been testing the facelifted 1-series for over a year now and it is apparently in no hurry to remove much camouflage from the test car. In the far north, this still tightly packed specimen is now appearing.
The first time the facelifted BMW 1 series was spotted was already 13 months ago. BMW is on the safe side and has been lavishly pasted with camouflage stickers all this time. Unfortunately, that also applies to the car that we see in these new photos in Sweden. Unfortunately, there is not much new to see compared to previous spots; it is mainly an indication that BMW is not yet unveiling the 1-series. Which means; it will probably arrive this summer at the earliest, perhaps the curtain will not come off until September at the IAA in Munich.
As we could see earlier, BMW is mainly sharpening the nose of the 1 Series. We see differently arranged headlights, but that may not be the biggest news. It seems that the nose of the 1-series is becoming a bit more pointed. The ‘kidneys’ of the grille may become less high. If that is indeed the case, it will probably give the BMW 1 series a nice different nose. The current grille is not to be missed and – although not as extreme as on the 2 Series Active Tourer – has not been to everyone’s taste. Things are a bit more subtle at the back. Here, the light signature is also being overhauled and you can count on the rear bumper getting a slightly different layout.
BMW 1 Series.
In the interior, we expect a larger infotainment screen and digital instruments, which are visually housed in one panel, as we already saw in the related 2-series Active Tourer. Furthermore, the iDrive button disappears from the center tunnel and there is a (again as in the 2-series AT) a new selector lever for the automatic transmission instead of the conventional gear lever. Again count on a range of petrol and diesel engines, with the M135i as the top version. Whether the 1 series, like the 2 series Active Tourer, will also be available as a plug-in hybrid after the facelift? We expect to have the answer within six months.
