Also the coupe
Our spy photographer has captured the facelifted Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ somewhere high in the Alps. Both the coupé and the regular variant will probably get an updated appearance next year. It is expected that little will change under the skin.
In the run-up to the last Geneva Motor Show in 2019, Mercedes-AMG presented the GLE 53 4Matic+. In terms of motorization, this is the sub-topper in the range of Mercedes’ second-largest SUV. Next year there will not only be another Motor Show for the first time, but the GLE variant will also be on the market for the fourth year. High time for a facelift. It doesn’t seem to change too much.
Subtle changes
Mercedes-Benz chooses to add to the usual: the light units and the bumpers, both of the coupé and the non-coupé variant. What the new light units will look like exactly is yet to be seen, because the brand packed them well with these test cars. The bumpers, on the other hand, are almost all virtually naked. The front bumper seems to be slightly modified. At the rear, the contrasting strip above the four exhausts disappears. The ridges that the A-class got in its hood during its recently presented facelift, the GLE already had. So they are not news.
The engine with which Mercedes-AMG equips the GLE 53 4Matic+ will most likely remain the same. This means that the car will also have a 3-litre in-line six under its hood after the facelift. In the current version of the sub-topper in the GLE range, it is good for 435 hp and 520 Nm of torque. The block is linked to a mild-hybrid system for a temporary 22 hp and 250 Nm extra torque. In the A and B classes, that system was equipped with a more powerful starter generator. Time will tell whether the electrical assistance of the GLE will also receive an upgrade.
Only in Qatar?
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz will use the facelift to add a number of extra things to the option list. Think of a new paint color or a new color for the interior. The standard equipment will also change slightly, as will the infotainment system and its operation. Mercedes may again use Geneva (but in Qatar) to pull the curtain on the facelifted GLE 53. That would mean that it would have to wait until November 2023.
