Familiar Swedish design, new name: Volvo XC40 Recharge becomes Volvo EX40

Volvo is standardizing the model names for its fully electric cars, underlining the transformation of the Swedish brand into a manufacturer of fully electric models. From now on, the Volvo XC40 Recharge will be known as the Volvo EX40, while the Volvo C40 Recharge will be the Volvo EC40. At the same time, Volvo is implementing further product changes and there are two attractive introductory versions of both models: the Business Edition and the Black Edition.

  • Volvo XC40 Recharge becomes Volvo EX40
  • EX40 Single Motor Essential from €45,995
  • SEPP purchase subsidy possible on Essential
  • Business Edition from €49,995, Black Edition from €54,995

More than just a new name

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is now called EX40 and will also receive a number of technical changes. For example, the EX40 Single Motor will have a new type of battery (70 kWh) and can therefore charge with 185 kW. This reduces the 10-80 percent charging time from 34 to 26 minutes. The Twin Motor will be succeeded by the Twin Motor Performance for model year 2025. This version has a motor on the front axle and a motor on the rear axle, with a combined power of 325 kW/442 hp, good for a 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

Essential version, very attractive

The EX40 Single Motor remains available in the Essential version, even with the improved battery technology, with a SEPP subsidy of €2,950, due to an attractive starting price of €45,995. The tax value of the Single Motor Essential is €44,830

Volvo EX40 Business Edition and Black Edition

To reinforce the launch of the Volvo EX40 and EC40, Volvo is introducing the Business Edition and Black Edition on both models. The Business Edition is a complete and fiscally attractive version. The package includes: Adaptive Cruise Control with Pilot Assist, Blind Spot Information System (including Cross Traffic Alert), 360-degree cameras and extra tinted rear glass. The Volvo EX40 Business Edition has a starting price of €49,995.

The Black Edition focuses on the color black. It is finished in Onyx Black metallic, the logos and emblems are in glossy black and the 20-inch wheels are also completely glossy black. The Black Edition is also equipped with Harman Kardon premium audio, 360-degree cameras and the Pixel LED headlights. The Volvo EX40 Black Edition is available from €54,995. Both the Business and the Black Edition are also available on the Volvo EC40.
