There is news again from Faraday Future, the start-up that is having a lot of trouble actually starting up. The first episodes are now scheduled for April, but money is still needed for that.
According to Reuters, production of the FF 91, as Faraday Future’s first car is called, should finally start in March. If that is achieved, it will be a few months after the last communicated starting date. Earlier this year, there was talk of a production start in the third quarter of 2022.
The American start-up got a new CEO earlier this year and has often suffered setbacks in the recent past. Although the first pre-production copy ran off the line in February of this year, that is something different from an actual production start.
The production start in the spring is not just possible. Faraday Future is asking its investors for an additional $170 million to push the plan through, a move that has not exactly been warmly received by those same investors, according to a second Reuters report. The stock lost 21 percent of its value today.
Faraday Future is certainly not the first start-up to find that designing an EV is very different from actually building and getting that car approved. That’s not a shame, but it’s a shame. In itself, the FF 91 is quite a promising thing. It looks modern and coherent inside and out, should be able to travel more than 600 kilometers on a full battery and has three electric motors with a total of more than 1,000 hp.
