Juice fasting is not a diet

In juice fasting, freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices are drunk instead of water and unsweetened tea (as is common in classic healing fasting), but over a much shorter period of time. This is not a diet, but rather should be a way to relieve the metabolism. For example, this is a good idea after the holidays or during Lent.

Since juice fasting is only suitable for a few days, hardly any fat reserves are attacked. However, intestines and digestion can look forward to a few days off.

Incidentally, the often advertised detox effect is not scientifically proven.

The right time for juice fasting: the weekend

Since the body can lack important nutrients and vegetable proteins in this type of fasting, doctors advise: inside not to practice the juice cure for too long. Especially weekends or other days off when you can recover a little, are ideal for this.

If you want to do a juice cure, you should note the following information:

  • With a juice cure, two liters of freshly pressed fruit or vegetable juice are drunk throughout the day, plus two to three liters of water or diluted juices to cover the increased fluid requirement.
  • If you are too much work to squeeze out of juices, you can also buy them in nature clouds and organic quality in the health food store. The bought juices should not contain any sugar or preservatives. The self -pressed juices also apply that no additional sweetener such as sugar or honey should be added.
  • You shouldn’t drink the juices quickly, but consciously and sip.

You can find juicers for citrus fruits, for example, in the avocadostore.

Tip: You can pour the juices into a BPA-free drinking bottle on the go.

Desired positive effects on our health

Some advantages are attributed to juice fasting (which, however, are not sufficiently proven scientifically):

  • Above all, juice fasting should relieve the organism and bring it back into balance. Strengthening the immune system and an improved complexion is also one of the hoped -for results.
  • In addition, certain types of fruit and vegetables have positive effects on our health. For example, if you process nettles, they have a draining effect on the body. Artichokes, on the other hand, stimulate liver function and sauerkraut juice helps against constipation.
  • However, valuable fiber in juice is also lost, which you would consume if you eat the fruit and vegetables of the juices in a solid form.

However, according to the German Nutrition Society, which also includes juice fasting, detoxification diets are not scientifically necessary. A healthy body cleans itself over intestine, liver, kidneys, breathing and skin itself.

If you eat almost exclusively on fruit and vegetable juices for two to three days, this has no negative effects on our health in most cases. However, there are some unpleasant side effects:

  • Fruit and vegetables contain only a few proteins and fats, including vitamins such as B12. In the event of too long or frequent juice cure, this can lead to deficiency symptoms.
  • Due to the lack of fiber, you lack the feeling of satiety.
  • Headaches, fatigue and dizziness can occur.

Note: Under certain circumstances, you should urgently obtain medical advice before trying out juice fasting. Especially for patients: inside with heart disease, liver or kidney problems, pregnancy, eating disorder or diabetes, this type of fasting is not suitable. People with stomach problems or fructose intolerance also have to be careful, because they can react to the many liters of fruit and fruit juice with diarrhea and nausea.
