Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is investing € 166 million in its factory in Tychy, Poland, according to a tweet by Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Gowin. In the second half of 2022, the first new models should roll off the production line.
The tweet says Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo will produce new electric and hybrid models at the factory. According to Gowin, the investment of € 166 million is “the crowning proof of market confidence in Poland.” FCA confirmed opposite Reuters that this is indeed the case. Given the fusion of FCA and PSA in the new ‘Stellantis’, it is obvious that the cars that FCA will produce in Tychy (partly) have French genes. The investment will therefore mainly benefit the expansion of the current production capacity and the adaptation of the production lines for the new electric models with PSA technology.
The fact that FCA wants to use the eCMP platform is no longer an open secret. It is therefore quite possible that one of the first cars to roll off the production line in Poland is the Alfa Romeo Tonale, of which the brand already gave a foretaste at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. Currently, the 2,500 people working at the factory are screwing up the Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon. Previously, Fiat also built the Panda and the Seicento. In 2019, total production was still more than 263,000 cars. The current plans therefore mean in any case that the variation in the factory will increase considerably from 2022.
Update: earlier there was talk about € 2 billion, which turned out to be the wrong conversion.
