Ferrari CEO: ‘Never see Ferrari become fully electric’

Ferrari has already launched a number of models with partly electric drive, but we should not expect the brand to initiate a rapid transition. This is evident from the words of CEO Louis Camilleri.

With the LaFerrari, Ferrari entered the world of hybrid drive. That was already a lot at the time, although at that time Ferrari was no longer the only brand that achieved blood-curdling figures with partly electric drive. After all, contemporaries Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 could do some of it. More recently, Maranello came up with the SF90, with which it pushed its own boundaries in terms of speed and use of electrical power. A cautious basis for a larger-scale use of electrical power, you would say.

Well, in terms of application of electric motors, we can really expect a lot more from Ferrari in the coming years, but a fully electric car is still shrouded in mystery. CEO Louis Camilleri admits in one discussion of the quarterly figures with investors that Ferrari is not very enthusiastic about fully electric driving at all. “If you look at the SF90 Stradale, it’s a costly story. We hope in the longer term that the costs will go down. The costs for battery technology should also go down.” Partly for this reason, Camilleri does not envision a future for Ferrari in which electric driving will become dominant: “To go purely for electric driving is still much too early. To be honest, I never see Ferrari become 100 percent electric and not even in my life. half.”
