Is there nothing to your liking in the extensive Ferrari model range? Then you don’t have to immediately run out of the Ferrari showroom. Under the name Special Projects, Ferrari is happy to build a unique car that is to your satisfaction. This is the latest creation from Ferrari Special Projects: the SP51.

The Ferrari SP51 is a unique model. In a literal sense, there is only one of them. The SP51 was commissioned by a customer by Ferrari and shares its base with the 812 GTS, although it is much more than an 812 GTS with a modified bumper.

Designer Flavia Manzoni has really enjoyed himself in the Ferrari Syling Center. The SP51 has a front that differs greatly from that of the 812 GTS. We see Roma-style headlights, a modified hood with inserts and a completely different bumper. On the front fenders we observe inserts, at the bottom of the flanks are wide skirts and the bumps, which are visual extensions of the headrests, are connected by a bridge. Also on the back, the SP51 deviates strongly from the car with which it shares its base. The SP51 has its own taillights and a much stronger rear bumper. By the way, it can’t be closed and with that the SP51 also takes a slightly different path than the open 812’s. The blue and white stripes that run the length of the car are a reference to the Ferrari 410 S from 1955.

Ferrari does not make any statements about the technology of the SP51, so we assume for the time being that the same 6.5 V12 is located in the long nose as in the 812 GTS. That twelve-cylinder is good for 800 hp and 718 Nm in the 812 GTS. As mentioned, there is only one copy of the SP51. The chance that you run into him in Europe is also nil. The Ferrari SP51 was commissioned by a Taiwanese customer and it is therefore very likely – if it does not disappear into storage – that it will rarely if ever be seen on the road in Europe.
