Fiat 850 Sport Coupe (1969) – Into the Wild

The Fiat 850 was available in no fewer than five body styles. Earlier we could already welcome an 850 sedan and a Sport Spider in this section, today it is the turn of the Sport Coupé.

Put an 850 Sport Coupe next to the sedan and at first glance you wouldn’t say the two are related. The Sport CoupĂ© has, among other things, a longer ‘bonnet’, a more sloping front and rear windows and double taillights. The coupĂ© version also has a ‘Kamm-tail’, where the rear of the car slopes and is cut off abruptly. As with the other 850 variants, the engine of the Sport CoupĂ© is located in the back. The slats reveal the position of the motor and help to provide the necessary cooling.

This copy still looks very neat in its yellow colour. Rust – a common problem on the 850 – is invisible, the chrome bumpers shine at you and the wire wheels look good on him. Since this car is from 1969, it has the largest engine you could get in the 850: a 903 cc four-cylinder with 53 hp. In 1968 Fiat carried out an update for the 850 CoupĂ© and Spider, introducing the more powerful engine, and gave both versions the addition ‘Sport’. Incidentally, Abarth built even more powerful versions of the 850, but they were not officially from Fiat itself.

AutoWeek forum user Quadrifoglio Verde captured this 850 Sport CoupĂ© in a parking lot in a forest. According to RDW data, the car came to the Netherlands in 2004 and has had five private owners here since then. The current owner has owned it since last April 13, so that’s only a relatively short time. In any case, we hope that they take as good care of the Fiat 850 Sport CoupĂ© as the previous owners did!
