Fiat comes with a new compact SUV

Fiat sends a teaser video into the world announcing the arrival of a new SUV. The brand has a compact high-legged in the development chambers, if only the question is whether the new Fiat will also come to Europe.

Fiat will bring a completely new compact SUV to the South American market this year, a car of which Fiat’s South American design department, located in the Brazilian Betin, is showing a teaser video. Most likely it is a car that shares its technical basis with the Argo.

In a teaser video, Fiat shows, among other things, a clay model of the upcoming new crossover. The yet to be unveiled new Fiat will probably have to compete with cars like the Volkswagen Nivus, a Polo-based compact coupé SUV that will eventually also come to Europe in an adapted form when it enters the South American market later this year. The new Fiat crossover, which is currently going through life under the title Project 363, will in any case have a completely different look. After all, all the most recent South American Fiats, the Argo, Toro and Strada, have a completely different front. Although the lighting on the front of the ‘Project 363’ is divided over two layers, just like the Toro, the top units in which the LED daytime running lights are incorporated in the Project 363 are a lot flatter and smaller. However, it is quite possible that the Toro will soon be facelifted and will also get this front. Count on a compact crossover with a sloping roofline.

The production version of the new Fiat is expected to be available with 1.0 and 1.3-liter turbo engines with outputs of up to 180 hp. We already know the 180 hp 1.3 in Europe from the Renegade. The blown 1.0 is available in the Netherlands in the Fiat Tipo, which was renewed last year.

Whether the new Fiat SUV is also coming to the Netherlands? That remains to be seen. The Argo, Toro and Strada are not available here and the fact that the Project 363 was designed by Fiat’s South American division creates little hope. Should Fiat nevertheless bring the South American Project 363 to Europe, history repeats itself somewhat. After all, in the 90s, Fiat also brought the Palio Weekend to our part of the world.
