Finally done and with the trend

SUVs with a sloping roofline are popping up more and more, but until now Fiat lacked such a car. That is now changing, but in the Netherlands you will never see him on the road.
Fiat is renewing. Where it first was quite quiet around the brand for years, it came in 2020 with the electric 500e. Fiat then presented a facelifted Tipo and a new spatial bus duo called Scudo and Ulysse. In South America, where the brand is a bigger player than in Europe, Fiat is launching new models on the car market at a faster pace. Today Fiat shows the exterior of its first SUV with a steeply sloping roofline. This is the Fiat Fastback. But he is not coming to Europe.

Fiat Fastback
The Fiat Fastback has not yet been fully unveiled, but the manufacturer is already releasing the appearance of its new SUV. The Fastback has relatively large headlamps positioned above the grille with an optical extension that dips into the front screens. Of course, the Fastback has a steeply sloping roofline from the B-pillar that flows smoothly into the rear window. It is striking that the Fastback is not immediately recognizable as a Fiat, especially from the rear. We see flat headlights whose L-shaped light signature reminds us somewhat of the rear lights of the BMW 2-series Gran Coupé. The license plate sits under a canopy-like crease in the tailgate. Since the Fastback is an SUV, the Fiat design department could not resist providing it with black plastic wheel arch edges, plastic trim at the door sills and bumpers with skid plate-like parts.

The Fiat Fastback Concept presented in 2018.
The Fastback has been a long time coming. Already in 2018, Fiat looked ahead to the newcomer with the Fastback Concept, although the study model had a front that was strongly reminiscent of that of the Toro. For the definitive Fastback, Fiat is clearly doing something different. For example, the Fastback mainly shows design similarities with the still brand new Fiat Pulse and its Abarth brother.
The Fiat Fastback seems to have been developed especially for the South American and in particular for the Brazilian market. The car will therefore most likely not come to the Netherlands. Is that a pity? Would the Fiat Fastback be a welcome addition to Fiat’s European range? And should it be an EV or not? We are curious about your opinions! Other South American Fiats not supplied here are the Mobi, Argo, Cronos, Strada and Toro.
