Suited up

Fiat produced roughly 4.5 million copies of the original Panda between 1980 and 2003. In Italy you can still find them on every street corner today. The Italians have introduced countless different versions over the years, of which the Sergio Tacchini is perhaps one of the nicest. This example is originally Dutch and – unlike many other Pandas – very well preserved. A real piece of Italian cultural heritage.
Despite the fact that the Fiat Panda was built so long and multiple times, encountering an original copy in the Netherlands is now quite unique. As an Italian car of the people, the model has enough enthusiasts, so the cars that are still in good condition are slowly but surely increasing in value. If it also concerns a striking performance, that certainly applies.
Ayrton Senna
The Panda for sale here is one of those, with its completely turquoise-green interior. That is part of the Sergio Tacchini version. Sergio Tacchini is an Italian suit brand. And if you think that an Italian suit and a people’s car don’t go well together, you’re right. Tacchini made tracksuits. Not only that, other types of sportswear also came from the hand of the Italian designer. For example, the brand once even signed for the racing overalls of the legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna.
Fiat did not only rely on an Italian pen for the inside. The Fiat Panda coach was drawn along the ruler of Giorgetto Giugiaro, during the time he worked for Italdesign. With its simple yet striking lines, Giugiaro gave the Panda a rather timeless appearance, which also facilitated an astonishingly practical interior. With an empty weight of 702 kg, the Panda is certainly not a giant, but four adults and some luggage can easily be stored in it.
Simple technique
The small Fiat is therefore quite usable. Not least because of the simple technology. Pandaatjes are almost indestructible, and there was not much to it. In addition, you don’t have to worry about rust with this copy. The Fiat still looks to pass through a ring and has clearly not had a hard life. In addition, the engine, a four-cylinder with a capacity of 999 cc and 45 hp, only had to travel 26,443 kilometers.
In short: a unique example of a car that you can enjoy for years to come, or that you – presumably like the previous owners – can preserve as a piece of history. You just have to be willing to smash your piggy bank for it: the asking price is a sweet €8,900…
