In honor of

When designing the interiors and exteriors of its forthcoming models, Fiat is inspired by the shapes of its old Lingotto factory in Turin. That factory celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and that is worth some recognition. That is why the Italians are already sharing some pictures of what a Lingotto-inspired car could look like.
In the not too distant future – this year or next year – Fiat will present two new models. One is most likely the new 600, and the other a hatchback that indirectly succeeds the Punto. For the design of those two cars and/or future Fiat models, Fiat’s design department is currently taking inspiration from the shape of Fiat’s former factory in Turin called Lingotto. This is a gigantic rectangular building with a test track on the roof, lots of uniform windows and spiral ‘ramps’ on both sides that used to be used by cars-to-be to roll from one part of the production line to the other.

On top of Lingotto.
100 years of Lingotto
These features are important, because their shapes will soon be reflected in the interiors of Fiat, of which the brand is already showing a digital concept version. The brand is doing that now, because the Lingotto factory is 100 years old this year. The factory also serves as inspiration for the exteriors of future Fiats; in the image below, the collection of squares should refer to Lingotto’s windows.
Furthermore, Fiat implements many elongated shapes with semicircles, rectangles and circles on either side. The rectangles refer to the ‘watchtower’ on Lingotto’s roof and the circles to the helicopter landing pad. Those shapes were also partly reflected in the Centoventi Concept from 2019. We are therefore curious to see how much the basic shapes will actually return in the interiors of production Fiats. Because they sure are frivolous.

The squares should be reminiscent of Lingotto’s windows.
