Infiniti Vision Qe

More than once, the first electric model from a car brand that does not yet have an EV is a crossover, SUV or other high-rise model. Infiniti chooses a different strategy. Nissan’s luxury brand is looking ahead to its very first electric model with this Vision Qe. And guess what? It’s a slick sedan!

Given the popularity of crossovers and SUVs, it is not surprising that the new electric long-legged vehicles are currently flying around your ears. Of course, electric sedans and fastbacks are also being marketed and although there seem to be more and more of them, high models mainly have the upper hand in terms of feeling. Infiniti – Nissan’s luxury brand – does not yet have an EV, but one will come. Infiniti’s first electric model will be a derivative of this Vision Qe. Infiniti itself calls the Vision Qe a slender one fastbacksedan and that doesn’t seem to be a lie.

Like almost all recent Infiniti study models, the Vision Qe is mainly about appearance. The brand does not provide extensive technical specifications. We are presented with paragraphs full of both sought-after and empty talk, full of Japanese terms such as Kabuku, Sho and Sui, words with meanings like exceptional, dynamics and refinement and purity. Infiniti seems to emphasize that its electric show car looks ahead to a sporty, luxurious and therefore relatively high-ranking EV. Infiniti is therefore a so-called premium brand and is comparable to Nissan as Lexus is to Toyota.

The study model is painted in the dark blue color Shadow Blue, a paint in which – depending on the light – also fragments of gold can be seen. More striking things: the lighting runs from the headlights across the width of the snout of the Vision Qe, forming a grille-like whole. Illuminated lines have been applied to the strikingly high bumper and the show car stands on large alloy wheels with an apparent jumble of geometric shapes. According to Infiniti, the design of the wheels is inspired by the coil of an electric motor. We also see gold-colored elements in these striking slippers.

Will there be no electric models from Infiniti at all? Of course. The brand will launch a new generation of its largest SUV – the QX80 – on the market next year. It previously looked ahead to that car with this QX Monograph Concept. Infiniti is also launching a new crossover with a steeply sloping roofline. It will be called QX65. Will these be EVs? We don’t expect that, although they will undoubtedly have electrified powertrains. Infiniti has already hinted at the arrival of an electric SUV. For the time being, they call it ‘Vision QXe’. A photo of the four newcomers released by the brand already shows something of that car.
