The first new car from Moskvitch, the Soviet brand being revived in Russia, is a Chinese JAC Sehol Yao with different decals. It has to compete with the Lada Vesta and will be on the market soon.
Production of the first new Moskvitch will start very soon in a former Renault factory in Russia. That is a car from the Chinese JAC: a Sehol Yao, but with different logos. This is evident from the reporting of Russian car news sites. There are also stories about Moskvitch’s second model, a rebadged crossover from JAC.
But first it’s time for the liftback based on the Sehol Yao. Small side note: that is not the car in the photos, because that is a JAC A5. However, the Sehol Yao shows strong similarities with the A5, because they share their carriage. If you want to know what the new Moskvitch looks like, think of the A5 shown with different bumpers and light units. Kamaz is currently putting the finishing touches to the production line. That company, originally a truck builder, owns the former Renault factory together with the Russian state.
Lada counterpart
Like its JAC brother, the Moskvitch liftback is expected to have a 1.5-liter turbo engine under the hood with an output of 150 hp. Its dimensions roughly correspond to those of a Skoda Octavia: 4.77 meters long, 1.83 meters wide, 1.5 meters high. The Russian is expected to have a competitive price tag compared to the facelifted Lada Vesta last year, which will be Russia’s best-selling car in 2021. That is also allowed, because it is the intention that Moskvitch manages to pull the Russian car market out of the doldrums somewhat. Production will start this year.
