Five fuel-efficient petrol cars for less than €5,000

Although the peak seems a bit off, you still have quite a bit of money lost at the pump. If you want to continue to go cheaply from A to B with your own transport and preferably do not pay the top price for the purchase of a car, these used cars may be interesting.

These are financially challenging times. Inflation, energy crisis, high fuel prices, record prices for used cars; it hasn’t gotten much better this year. When it’s time for you to pay attention to the little ones, we’ll be happy to lend you a hand. With a budget of €5,000, we are looking for a petrol car that won’t make you stare at the gas pump crying all the time. Fairly basic transport, yes, but you can often get along with the simplest, relatively modern cars.

Daihatsu Cuore – 2006 – €1,199

Average consumption: 4.6 l/100 km

Daihatsu Cuore

The cheapest car we offer you is this Daihatsu Cuore from 2006. It is true that it is no longer the youngest, but Cuores are reliable and this example has only covered about 120,000 km in its 16-year existence. A quiet life so probably and probably there is still plenty in it for a few more years. In any case, you don’t have to leave it alone for the money, because it is really in the bottom category. There is still apk until June.

Peugeot 107 – 2008 – €3.950

Average consumption: 4.6 l/100 km

Peugeot 107

A car from the well-known Citybug triplets from Peugeot, Citroën and Toyota should of course not be missing from this list. You’ll stumble upon the 107’s, C1’s and Aygo’s in this price range, so if you don’t like these, there’s plenty of choice left. However, this 107 has only had one owner and with 79,000 km also has a nice low mileage. It’s just not the most cheerfully executed 107 with its dark gray paint, but hey, despite its high cuddliness level, you would prefer to look a bit more serious. Then this one might just be ideal.

Ford Ka – 2011 – €4,274

Average consumption: 4.9 l/100 km.

Ford Ka

Three years newer, nice wheels underneath and a slightly less standard paint color: this Ford Ka is all in all a bit fresher to see than the 107 above. You hardly pay more for that and that makes it an interesting alternative. However, the Ka has run a bit more, 118,000 km, and it has worn out four owners. Although such a Ka, like the cars above, is of course not necessarily an ideal travel car, you can still travel quite comfortably with this Ka, at least in the summer. He has – just like the 107 by the way – air conditioning, which is nice.

Kia Picanto – 2012 – €4.750

Average consumption: 4.2 l/100 km.

Kia Picanto

The Kia Picanto has become one of the most popular cars in the Netherlands in the past ten years. Not surprising, because Kia put down smooth-looking cars with the previous and current Picanto that are also well put together. What does a man want more? What helps this ten-year-old Picanto to still look fresh is – apart from its color – that the current Picanto largely resembles its predecessor. In the interior, the years have started to count a little more, but the cockpit of the Picanto still looks quite contemporary compared to the other cars on this list.

Fiat Panda – 2012 – €4,790

Average consumption: 4.2 l/100 km

Fiat Panda

After all, we can’t let this Fiat Panda pass you by. Why not 500 you might ask? Well, they are so popular because of their mischievous appearance that the price-quality ratio sometimes leaves something to be desired. His more level-headed brother is a safer choice in that regard. Moreover, with the Panda you get a more practical car at home and one that is also very economical. The Panda and the Picanto are the most economical cars in this list. Thanks to its color and the alloy wheels underneath, this Panda certainly doesn’t look boring. In the interior it may not be as flashy as in a 500, but it is also cheerful. It is also the most complete car of the five in terms of equipment. You just have to be able to live with the two-cylinder that lies in his nose.

Of course there is much more to be found if you use these search criteria. Think, for example, of the Suzuki Alto, Hyundai i10, Renault Twingo and Volkswagen Up. You can also search for some older cars and thereby reduce the purchase price, or look a bit bigger. In both cases, the consumption is often somewhat higher.
