Five Renaults 5 from the used car range

Renault wants to breathe new life into the R5 of yesteryear with the recently unveiled 5 Prototype. It is not yet known when it will go into production, but it will probably take a few more years. Rather in need of a Renault 5 in the driveway? Then of course you can always go for the original!

1. Renault 5 L ‘5th Avenue’ (1984) – € 7,900

Renault 5

The first generation of the Renault 5 saw the light of day in 1972 and was only relieved in 1985 by the ‘Supercinq’. This copy is from 1984 and is the only regular copy of the first 5 in our range. The ‘5th Avenue’ version refers to the famous shopping street in New York, but it is still really original delivered in the Netherlands. Its red color goes well with the beige interior. Under the hood is a four-cylinder with a displacement of 956 cc, good for 44 hp. Apparently this copy is in good condition and has only had one owner, who has driven just over 53,000 kilometers with it. However, the MOT expired in 2011, so the fiver has been idle for some time.

2. Renault 5 1.4 Automatic (1986) – € 1,999

The Renault 5 is now quite old, which means that the number of used copies is becoming scarce. This translates into the used car prices, because with its price of barely two grand, this copy is the cheapest in our used car range. It is special for another reason, because the 1.4, which delivers 67 hp, is linked to a three-speed automatic transmission. Obviously, this is not the smoothest combination. This Supercinq has had six owners in its 34 years of existence, who together drove 89,601 kilometers with it. Again, the equipment is pretty basic, but the car appears to be neat. The MOT is also valid until mid-September.

3. Renault 5 1.4 TR (1989) – € 2,495

Do you need two extra doors? Then this red Supercinq offers a solution. Apart from a dent on the right front fender, it still looks very good. The seats are upholstered in a striking combination of gray and blue. This 5 also has two speakers built-in in the rear shelf, so you don’t have to be without your favorite music during the ride. The just under 60 hp four-cylinder is coupled to a manual five-speed gearbox, which probably makes it a little better off its place than the previous one. It has had three registered owners who drove it 138,250 kilometers in 31 years. The MOT is still valid until April 1.

4. Renault 5 1.4 GT Turbo (1988) – € 9,950

Need a little more spice? In 1985 Renault launched the 5 GT Turbo. The name already gives it away: the 1.4 has a turbo, so that the total power suddenly amounts to 115 hp. With the hatchback weighing only 848 kilos, the performance doesn’t lie: the sprint to 100 km / h accelerates the GT Turbo in 8 seconds and is only out of breath at 204 km / h. Furthermore, it is lower to the ground than the regular 5, the wheel arches are knocked out and it has a sportier front and rear bumper. Of course, the interior was not left untouched with the addition of sports seats and a sports steering wheel. Its mileage of 252,850 is on the solid side, but the GT Turbo is now becoming quite rare.

5. Renault 5 Turbo (1981) – € 139,995

The oldest car from this list is also by far the most expensive, but that has a reason. The Renault 5 Turbo was conceived as a homologation special for the rally version of the 5. It is especially unique because the engine is located behind the front seats, something that would later return in the Clio V6. It can also be recognized by its extended rear fenders with air intakes. This copy is a ‘Turbo 1’, the rarest variant of which only 1,820 units have been built. Renault built 3,167 copies of the later Turbo 2. The Turbo 1 can be recognized by its special seats and dashboard, which have a very colorful color scheme in this copy. Thanks to the 160 hp turbo engine behind the front seats, it blasts to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds and steams up to 201 km / h. A unique car, but it has its price …
