Five times Mercedes-Benz SL for less

Five times Mercedes-Benz SL for less

A new, yet well-known star has appeared in the firmament at Mercedes: the new SL. The price is not yet known, but you can count on it that the new ‘Sport Leicht’ will be quite expensive in the Netherlands thanks to its 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo as an entry-level engine. To kick off the weekend, here are five cheaper options.

Mercedes-Benz 450 SL – €11,950

Mercedes-Benz SL

Generation R107 of the SL came on the market in 1971. In terms of design language, it differed considerably from its predecessor, the W113. The round shapes of the latter had been exchanged for a tight, angular interplay of lines. The 450 SL was quite high in the pecking order. Above him are only the 500 and 560 SL. Its 4.5-litre V8 has a power output of 218 hp. According to the AutoWeek occasion finder, this copy is from 1974 and was brought to the Netherlands in 1993, where it had two private owners. It looks like the interior is in need of a little TLC, but since the prices of R107s have gone up quite a bit, you probably won’t go wrong.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 – €9.945

Mercedes-Benz SL

After the R107 came the R129, which was in production from 1989 to 2001. The R129 kept the angular lines and had a number of special things on board, such as a roll bar that can be raised or lowered with the push of a button. The R129 was also the first SL to be available with a V12. More at the bottom of the pecking order is this pre-facelift 300 SL-24. However, with 231 horsepower, you don’t have to be ashamed of him. After the facelift in 1993, the numbers and letters were reversed, something that Mercedes-Benz maintains to this day. This example has barely sold two tons, was imported to the Netherlands in 1998 and has had one private owner ever since. You can take it with you for just under 10 grand.

Mercedes-Benz SL 500 – €19,950

Mercedes-Benz SL

Back to the round shapes! With the introduction of the R230, Mercedes-Benz turned things around again. The SL also got a steel folding roof for the first time in this generation, something the model has said goodbye to after 20 years with the introduction of the latest generation. This SL 500 has a very chic color scheme: dark blue with a beige interior, with wood inlay. With the 306 hp V8 under the hood, you can quietly ripple along the boulevard, but if desired, you can accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and continue to 250 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG – €29,900

Five times Mercedes-Benz SL for less

Prefer something more intense than the above SL 500? Then this SL 55 AMG might be something for you. This type designation has returned with the latest SL, but it has a 4.0-liter V8. The ‘original’ SL 55 AMG simply has a 5.5-liter V8 with supercharger on board, good for 500 hp and 700 Nm of torque. With this you ram with a loud roar to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. This example has walked just under 155,000 kilometers and was brought to the Netherlands in 2018, where it had one private owner.

Mercedes Benz SL 65 AMG –

Mercedes-Benz SL

Maybe the list gets a bit monotonous with only R230’s, but we just had to mention this one. The SL 65 AMG was, apart from the extreme Black Series, the absolute top model of the series. With 612 hp and no less than 1,000 Nm of torque, you pull the stones out of the street. In terms of composition, this copy with its completely black look is not very special, but its power source more than makes up for it. For just under 50 grand you drive around with a V12 under the hood!
