Very bitten by the bpm monster
The Ford Bronco was presented in the United States almost four years ago. Now the rugged retro off-roader can finally be ordered in the Netherlands. You pay a proverbial fortune for it due to the Dutch tax system. It is available from over €150,000…
The Ford Bronco comes to the Netherlands in two versions. It can be ordered as Outer Banks and as Badlands. Both have a 335 hp 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that is connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Bronco Outer Banks costs – don’t be alarmed – €153,100 in the Netherlands. For the Bronco Badlands you pay no less than €161,100. The Ford is for sale in the United States from around €36,000. The Bronco Outer Banks costs the equivalent of €44,390, the Bronco Badlands just under €46,000. The price difference between a similarly equipped Bronco in the Netherlands and the United States is approximately €110,000 to €115,000! If we calculate, this means that for the price of one Bronco in the Netherlands you can buy three (!) copies in the United States and still have almost €20,000 in your pocket. Can the Dutch importer be blamed for this? No. It does have everything to do with our tax system.
The 335 hp 2.7 V6 blows 273 to 280 grams of CO2 into the air per kilometer. The tax authorities’ calculation tool is certainly not happy about this. The price of the Ford Bronco Outer Banks includes over €75,000 bpm, the Bronco Badlands even almost €79,000. The BPM you pay when purchasing a Bronco is even higher than the basic starting price (excluding VAT/BPM). After all, it amounts to €62,940 to €66,375…
So you really have to want a Bronco to dig deep into your pockets. We can vividly imagine that this model gives you complicated feelings in the lower regions of the torso. The Ford Bronco is a rugged off-roader with a retro design that can overcome almost any physical obstacle in Europe. Fun fact: the Ford Bronco is available for an additional charge in the colors Absolute Black, Carbonized Gray and Eruption Green, but also in paintwork with names such as Area 51, Cactus Gray, Hot Pepper Red and Velocity Blue.
The 2.7 V6 helps the Ford Bronco Outer Banks reach 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The more adventurous Badlands reaches the same speed after 7.2 seconds. Not bad for chunky off-roaders that weigh 2,114 and 2,243 kilos. The top speed of both variants is 161 km/h. The average consumption of 10.2-10.7 l/100 kilometers is less fantastic, but easily explained.
The Ford Bronco Badlands is on off-road rubber, but has a completely different chassis than the Outer Banks version, which should also feel at home on asphalt. The Badlands also has a limited slip differential and a system that can disconnect the front stabilizer bars. This results in enormous wheel deflection on rough terrain. The transfer case with high and low range also has an automatic mode that allows you to switch between two- and four-wheel drive.
