Not just any Escort

Earlier this week we presented you with a Peugeot 306 Cabriolet, now it is the turn of a competitor from that time: the Ford Escort Cabriolet. Not just any one, but an XR3i.
There is a good chance that this Ford Escort will not be as successful in terms of design as the Peugeot 306 from earlier this week. Yet, in our opinion, this is also a convertible that is certainly worth some attention. Unlike the 306, this one is (if all goes well) ready to drive and it also has a fresh MOT. It has also been registered in the name of its current owner for seven years, so that also speaks in his favor.
The nicest thing, however, is the execution we have here. It is a very ‘early’ Escort Cabriolet and also the XR3i. The latter means that it is a bit sportier and is equipped with a 1.8 that pulls quite nicely. The four-cylinder engine produces about 130 hp on the front wheels, making the Escort quite light for a convertible and very smooth. 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.3 seconds and it reaches a top speed of 198 km/h.
You can of course exchange those rear lights for original ones.
This copy not only has a sporty, but also a more sophisticated edge. It has a light brown interior (including dashboard in that color) and the seats are partly upholstered in leather. Apparently that wasn’t striking enough for one of the previous owners, because aftermarket taillights and a big exhaust were fitted to the Escort. If an enthusiast comes forward for this car, this will probably be reversed. The aftermarket steering wheel is undoubtedly not to everyone’s taste. In short, there is still something to criticize about this Escort, although it seems to be basically a neat copy. All things considered, the asking price of €4,750 may be a bit on the ambitious side.
