Ford Explorer as a luxurious King Ranch Edition

Ford introduces a new, richly equipped version of the Explorer. The new variant of the American SUV has a name more American than a buttered turkey during Thanksgiving: King Ranch Edition.

Ford offers models like the F-150 and the immense Expedition in the United States in a version called the King Ranch Edition. This version is named after the largest cattle ranch in the US state of Texas, the King Ranch, which with an area of 3,340 square kilometers is larger than the smallest of the 50 US states: Rhode Island. Ford first introduced the King Ranch version in 2001 on the then current Ford F-150 and now the Explorer also gets that utterly cowboy name for the first time.

The King Ranch Edition, which unfortunately does not come to the Netherlands, benefits, among other things, from furniture that is completely covered in mahogany-colored perforated Mesa Del Rio leather. The King Ranch signature ‘Running W’ logos, traditionally a reference to the rattlesnakes that can be found at the King Ranch, cannot be missed. The center console is also covered with leather, the same applies to parts of the door panels and the canopy of the instruments. It does not stop with leather, Ford works in the interior with wood inserts, among other things.

More pampering comes in the form of the Premium Technology Pack, which includes seats with massage function, the 10.1-inch infotainment system and a 14-speaker audio system from B&O. From the outside, the Explorer King Ranch Edition can be recognized by its special grille and 20-inch large alloy wheels with the now famous Running W logo. The four chrome tailpipes and – how could it be otherwise – a set of King Ranch badges are also a landmark of the Explorer King Ranch Edition.

Ford only supplies the Explorer King Ranch Edition with the 345 hp and 515 Nm strong 3.0 V6. In the Netherlands, the Explorer is only available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
