Ford has presented an optically quite radically modified Explorer in China. Ford’s SUV, also available in the Netherlands, will get a completely new front, a sharpened rear and a completely new interior.

Recently we were able to show you the first dark images of the renewed Ford Explorer and this time we have the facelifted SUV in all its glory on offer for you. The Ford Explorer isn’t being modernized in a very gentle way.

The Ford Explorer has been on the international car market for three years now and that means it’s time for a facelift. At least, in China. Changan Ford releases the first clear photos of the renewed Explorer. The upgraded Ford Explorer gets a revised front with new headlights that are now cut straight instead of obliquely towards the grille. They connect to a grille that is a lot wider especially at the top and seems to continue further down. Changan Ford also uses the design brush of innovation at the rear. The SUV gets different taillights, complete with a new part housed in the tailgate. The lighting is optically linked together by a chrome strip that is only interrupted by the Ford emblem.

At least as striking is the interior of the facelifted Ford Explorer. That has been completely renewed except for the door panels. The dashboard in the American and European Explorer, with a small horizontal display in the center of the dashboard or a larger vertically oriented example, makes way for a cockpit that mainly consists of a screen. An enormous display runs over about two thirds of the width of the interior, a unit that can also provide the co-driver with all kinds of information. Numerous functions seem to be accommodated in the screen, the button island in the center console has considerably lost its complexity.

We are still awaiting a response from the Dutch importer whether the Explorer supplied here (photos 7 to 10) will also be adapted in a similar way. Ford uses a different design language in China than in the rest of the world, so this modified Explorer may very well not cross China’s borders through official channels.
