Not for us anymore

The Ford Explorer, the large one with a fuel engine, has been presented in a new form in the United States. The changes are quite drastic. We don’t get it anymore, but it’s still nice to see how things are going now.

We are preparing for the arrival of the fully electric Ford Explorer. A car that, apart from its brand and model name, has almost nothing to do with the Ford Explorer as we knew it in recent years. That larger SUV with fuel power already cleared the field here in the Netherlands last year, but it is still allowed to continue in its home country of the US. The Explorer has now also been extensively renovated.

To start with, the Ford Explorer gets a considerably refined front. The grille has grown considerably and is wider at both the top and bottom than before. The latter means that there is less space for the headlights, so they are now slightly narrower. However, they are slightly higher towards the corners than before. Ford has not been gentle with the brush of innovation at the rear either. The Explorer has a completely new rear hatch layout with a more straightforward cutout for the license plate. More striking is that the taillights now extend onto the tailgate and are optically connected to each other. The model name is written out in the middle of that connecting part.

The wind of change is also blowing strongly through the interior of the Ford Explorer. It has a completely new dashboard, with somewhat calmer lines than before. The vertically oriented infotainment screen has also been done away with, now you will find a 13.2-inch horizontally placed screen. The climate control is now also controlled via the screen.

‘Our’ Ford Explorer

We only knew the Ford Explorer as a plug-in hybrid, but in the US it is available with other powertrains. For the time being, the choice of the updated Explorer consists of a 304 hp 2.3 four-cylinder or 406 hp 3.0 V6 that send their power to the rear or all four wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission.
