Hassle with suppliers
Production of the Ford Focus in Saarlouis, Germany has resumed after a major disruption by striking suppliers.
More than a week ago, work at the Ford factory in Saarlouis came to a standstill because not all the necessary parts for the Ford Focus were being received. This had to do with a strike at various suppliers whose employees are members of the IG Metall trade union. The delivery of parts is now complete Automotive News is up and running again and Focuses can be built again.
About 500 IG Metall members at the suppliers were looking for the same, according to them, favorable dismissal deal that Ford’s factory employees will receive when production of the Focus stops. They reached an agreement on Monday. The strike cost Ford more than a million euros a day, so the total damage is probably closer to ten million euros.
It is still not clear what will happen to the factory if Ford withdraws next year. There are still discussions with a potentially interested party from the automotive industry. It is already clear that 3,500 jobs will disappear due to the production stop of the Focus.
