Ford GT Heritage Edition honors racing past

Next year it will be 55 years ago that Ford made history with the GT40 at the Daytona 24 Hours and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A good moment for the Americans to dress up their current GT in the original color scheme.

In 1966 Ford went to battle in two famous endurance races; the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With the GT40, Ford had in the years before (along with Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles) managed to create a blood-curdling monster that finally did what it was made for that year. It was the beginning of an extremely dominant era in motorsport for Ford. As it will be 55 years ago next year, Ford thinks it is high time to dress up the modern GT in the colors of its successful ancestor.

Ford chooses to dress up the GT in the color scheme of car number 98, which won the 24 Hours of Daytona with Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby behind the wheel. Following the example of the original, the GT thus has an asymmetrical color scheme, with a black bonnet with a red area on the left side on the nose. Furthermore, the ‘Race Red’ only comes back on the left flank, as was the case with the original. The 20-inch wheels look true to the gold color.

The historically responsible decoration is part of a wider range of customization options for the GT for the last full production year, 2021. A total of 40 GTs are available in various special color schemes, including these Daytona colors. Other options are a bit simpler, for example we see a white GT with subtle blue striping, but also a red, blue and even bright green GT with accentuating stripes. According to Ford, it is also possible to leave certain parts unpainted to show the bare carbon fiber. Fully ‘bare’ carbon fiber 20-inch wheels are also options. Ford will not let go of what it should all cost.
