Ford GT LM

The curtain will fall for the Ford GT before the end of this year. Before that, Ford will use its racing history one more time to market a limited edition: the Ford GT LM.

With the Ford GT LM, the brand reflects on its successes during its participation in Le Mans. The Americans consider the victory in 2016 especially important, when Ford finished 1 and 3 with the new GT during its first participation after 50 years of absence. The road car that the brand subsequently launched on the market in 2017 is based on that Le Mans racer. Quite special, because usually race cars don’t have much to do with the street cars they resemble.

In any case, Ford is proud of it. So much so, that it incorporated the crankshaft from the car that placed third in 2016 in all 20 GT LMs it now produces. The badge that adorns the dashboard in front of the front passenger’s nose is 3D printed with a metal that was made with the material of the crankshaft of that car. The Ford race team disassembled the engine from the third-place car, “shredded” the crankshaft, and melted it together with some extra metal. Thus, one crankshaft was sufficient for 20 placards.

Red or Blue

Because Ford’s race participants at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans were dressed in blue and red, you can choose from blue or red accents when ordering the GT LM. The Americans tint the carbon fiber elements on the outside of the car in the color of their choice and then also fold the driver’s seat in blue or red Alcantara. The inside of the carbon fiber wheels is also tinted blue or red.

Furthermore, Ford injects all LM’s liquid silver and for this edition they get unique, again 3D-printed titanium exhaust tailpipes with a ‘cyclone shape’, as the brand calls it. The Ford GT LM is the ninth special edition of the model. For each of those editions, Ford left the GT engine untouched, which means that the LM also does it with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, good for 660 hp and a top speed of 348 km/h.
