800 hp, not street legal
Surprise: Ford comes with yet another special version of the already spectacular Ford GT. The Ford GT Mk IV is a significant departure from the original, as is the Mk IV that served as inspiration.
A small correction: The Ford GT LM is not ‘the very last’ after all. That honor belongs to this car, the Ford GT Mk IV. The original Ford GT40 Mk IV was the last model in the GT40 range in 1967 and had a completely different body from previous editions. Ford does not go that far with the modern version, but one look is enough to see that this is not just a Ford GT. For example, the nose is completely different and equipped with wider, albeit almost closed headlights. Even more rigorous is that the car has a longer wheelbase than a regular street GT, just like its great example. The modern Mk IV is also covered from front to back with spoilers, splitters and air intakes, has ultra-sleek wheels and a huge wing at the back.
According to Ford, this Ford GT Mk IV is ‘the ultimate and most extreme Ford GT ever’, and who are we to doubt that. The car is not street legal and therefore a pure track toy, just like the FXX models from Ferrari and the Project 24 from Maserati. The car has more than 800 hp, compared to 647 units for the street GT. The Mk IV is being built in Canada by Ford Performance and supplier Multimatic, but not for long. There will only be 67, as a reference to the year in which the original Mk IV appeared.
