Ford invests over €272 million in UK production

Ford Halewood factory

Ford is pumping more than €270 million into its production facility in Halewood, England. The factory that Ford has there is being converted for the production of parts for electric cars.

Ford has a factory in Halewood, England, where it builds transmissions. Ford is investing €272.41 billion to convert that production facility into a factory that will make electric motors for electric passenger cars and commercial vehicles, among other things.

Ford says the first electric motors will leave the factory in mid-2024. About 250,000 electric motors have to be built every year. Of course, the reform plans do not come out of the blue. From 2030, Ford only wants to sell electric cars in Europe. From that year, about two-thirds of the commercial vehicles that Ford sells in Europe must be either fully electric or equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Ford will launch an electric passenger car in 2023 that will be built in Cologne. That car most likely uses Volkswagen’s MEB platform. In addition, Ford will build an electric version of the new Transit Custom in Turkey from 2023, a car of which Volkswagen in turn will probably get its own version. In addition, Ford will also build a commercial vehicle in Craiova in Romania, a new model that will also be an electric version in 2024.
