Ford is investing € 17.3 million in its own crash test center in Cologne. Among other things, this should benefit more extensive crash tests.
Ford subjects its own cars to crash tests in a specially equipped crash test center in Cologne, near the factory. This is what Ford sorts for the Euro NCAP tests that ultimately bring leading consumer advice. Ford wants to make its own tests more accurate and simulate more different types of crashes to work on the safety of its cars. That is why, thanks to an investment of € 17.3 million, more opportunities must be created in the center of Cologne.
The investment benefits, among other things, the construction of a new part. It must be possible to test with a run-up of 100 meters in a crash zone of 2,000 square meters. Here, Ford also wants to perform different tests than it does now. This includes a crash in which the car crashes at 50 km / h on an object moving in the opposite direction at the same speed. This should provide more insight into a head-on collision that causes the car to collide with a stationary object. Ford is also simulating more collision scenarios on the rear and side of cars in the near future. The new facility should be operational by mid-2021.
