Ford is testing Evos again on European soil

The future of the Mondeo is still shrouded in mystery in Europe. These spy photos show a new Ford test model, which bears strong resemblances to the Evos.

Ford will close the production line on which it produces the Mondeo for the European market in March next year. Little is known about a successor. For a moment, the Ford Evos presented in China seemed a contender to succeed the Mondeo in Europe in 2022, although Ford then said that the brand had no plans to offer that car outside of China. These spy photos show a new model that is still firmly in the stickers and with its strong Evos line raises questions about the way in which Ford will replace the Mondeo.

Ford Evos (China)

The packed test model in these photos is, just like the Ford Evos, a relatively long-looking model with a steeply sloping roofline. Although it is obvious that the photographed car is actually an Evos – the Evos has also been caught on European soil before – it cannot be said with certainty. The Ford in these photos appears to be slightly lower against the asphalt than the Evos unveiled in China and the striking rear spoiler above the rear window of that model should be missing from this test specimen. It is not inconceivable that Ford will bring an Evos adapted for the European market to our continent, or at least come here with a car of a similar shape. The fact that this test car has the ‘typical’ Chinese Ford design that we know from the facelifted Chinese Focus, among others, does not support that idea directly.

For the time being, we are not getting any wiser. The fact is that the current Mondeo is coming to an end and Ford – if it doesn’t come up with a direct successor – will have to refer former Mondeo customers to the Kuga or Mach-E. Ford would not be the first manufacturer to add a ‘low’ and almost liftback-like crossover to the D segment. Citroën has recently started to participate in this class again with the similar C5 X.
