Ford Kuga PHEV recalled due to fire hazard

The current generation of Kuga is available for the first time as a plug-in hybrid. Now Ford has a small setback with just that version, because almost all sold copies are now being recalled due to possible fire hazards.

Owners of a Ford Kuga PHEV can soon expect a letter in their letterbox telling them to return to the dealer. A recall has been announced and Ford Nederland has announced that this has to do with a possible fire hazard from the battery. Damage to the high voltage plug can short circuit the battery and cause the car to spontaneously catch fire. Ford discovered this problem after four copies in Europe were caught on fire. The Kugas can potentially catch fire while driving or when parked.

In total, some 21,000 European Kugas are being recalled. In the Netherlands this concerns 966 copies. “However, a third of these cars have not yet been delivered to customers. Naturally, we first provide these Kugas with the necessary update before customers can pick up their new car. ” This causes the delivery time to increase slightly. The other Kuga PHEV owners are called upon to visit the dealer soon. “Until then, we advise owners not to charge their Kuga PHEV by plug and drive in automatic EV mode: not entirely electric.” This should ensure that the battery does not become unnecessarily hot. In addition to a letter, a notification also appears in the Ford Pass app that owners can install on their smartphone.

The recall applies to Kugas built through June 26. Once the car is on the bridge at the Ford dealer, a mechanic will look at the high-voltage plug and check it for possible damage. If necessary, the plug will be replaced free of charge.
