Unpretentious and loyal

Just like earlier this week, we’re bringing you a blue mid-nineties car from the first half of the 1990s that deserves a loving new owner. A modest Ford Mondeo that the previous owner had a hard time saying goodbye to.
You may wonder whether the search for an enthusiast is not an impossible task with a 1991 Opel Vectra or with this Ford Mondeo. Yet we make an attempt, because they have one important characteristic in common: they have aged wonderfully well. These particular ones, that is. The models themselves less so. Like the Vectra, this competitor from the same period has quietly gone through existence. The Mondeo has only traveled a ton in over 28 years and, now, it’s all coming to one owner. You read that right: in early 1994 someone bought this Mondeo brand new and it wasn’t until the end of August of this year that it was time to say goodbye. Given the mileage, we suspect that the parting may have had more to do with the owner’s age than the car. ‘Been from an old lady’ would not be a hard-to-believe sales pitch with this Mondeo. Or an older gentleman, of course…
One thing is certain; the Mondeo was purchased on a tight budget. It is a 1.6 CLX and that was initially the cheapest Mondeo. The hubcaps, window winders front and rear and the simple fabric upholstery betray that somewhat. Rear headrests, electrically adjustable side mirrors and air conditioning? Forget it. That was all optional for the CLX and was not checked when ordering. The Mondeo does have a skylight.

Just nice and simple and unpretentious, so that only makes it more fun that this one is still there. In all those years the first owner has not even bothered to exchange the original radio/cassette player for a more extensive aftermarket-radio. We can safely speak of a time capsule on wheels.
That applies – for the most part – also when we look at the condition of the Mondeo. The interior is still very neat for its age and on the outside we only discover a dent in the front fender. The Mondeo seems devoid of visible rust and technically it can never be a very difficult story. After all, in the nose of the Mondeo is an uninspiring but at the same time quite trouble-free 1.6. That sixteen valve helps him to a power of 90 hp, so in that respect you have it better in the Mondeo than in the aforementioned Vectra. This is just a nice sober sedan that takes you all the way back to the nineties in many different ways and that will probably last for a while. Does it make your mouth water spontaneously? Reserve €1,550 in advance, because that is the asking price.
