Ford Mustang (2002) – Enthusiast Wanted

Just a little more affordable

Ford Mustang (2002) – Enthusiast Wanted

The seventh generation of the Ford Mustang has been unveiled and no doubt has a lot of spectacle in store for well-endowed car buyers. If such a new Mustang is much too expensive for you, know that you can also drive a Mustang for a relative penny. Then you have something completely different in front of you on many fronts.

The new Ford Mustang broadly sticks to the old recipe. Not only does it look quite like its predecessor(s) and the lines are still strongly inspired by the primal Mustang, there is also just another big V8 in its nose. Undoubtedly a combination that Mustang enthusiasts can appreciate. Of course you pay a lot for that, at least in the Netherlands. You can bet that the price of the new Mustang will again exceed €100,000, mainly thanks to the bpm.

If you do not have that money or if you simply think it is too much money for what you get, you can of course look at used Mustangs. This convertible from 2005 is the cheapest modern Mustang with retro lines from the AutoWeek range of cars. ditch. Its appearance is one of the reasons why the Mustang is not nearly as popular as the later Mustangs and that of course pushes the price.

This one from 2002 is one of the cheapest Ford Mustangs that we find in our used car range far cry The fourth generation Mustang was not the original Mustang as the ‘fox body’, but apart from the three-part taillights and the two ‘domes’ in the dashboard, there are hardly any clear references to the first Mustang. This Mustang was truly a child of its time. This was also apparent from the fact that Ford completely renovated it on the threshold of the 21st century and provided it with a body that better suited Ford’s new New Edge-design language. The Mustang that we see here is one of those after that renewal round and is probably a bit more pleasant on your retina than this very early and cheaper Mustang of the fourth generation. What Ford largely left untouched during the facelift, however, was the interior. That makes it look a bit dated than the rest of the car.

Okay, so it’s not the most desirable Mustang, but it still gives you a nice car that you don’t see often. Don’t expect a shocking performance, but it is really nice and fast. In the nose in this case is a 3.8-liter V6, the entry-level engine, which was new for a power of 193 hp. In this case, that power goes through a five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels, the manual version is definitely the version you want: the alternative was a four-speed automatic that took the hallway off nicely. Although 193 horsepower may not be that much power for the size of the block, it makes the 1,436 kilo Mustang a fairly spry car. 0 to 100 km/h should be beeped in about 7.7 seconds and the top speed is 216 km/h.

The biggest buying argument with this Mustang is, of course, just its price at the bottom. This is in fact offered by a private individual for €5,950. For a relatively low amount you can put something special in front of your door. A purchase inspection and a critical test drive are recommended, because this Mustang was imported (in 2006) and has gone through quite a few different owners. The current owner has only had it for two months and says he is getting rid of it because he is not ‘enthusiastic enough’. Maybe that’s you?
