Ford reveals details of electric F-150

Ford will soon be launching a fully electric F-150 on the market. The latest model of the United States’ flagship car was announced in June, but Ford is now also releasing more information about the electric variant to come. According to the Americans, it will be “more powerful than any F-150 on the market today”.

With the F-150, Ford owns the best-selling car in the US. Last year no less than 900,000 copies rolled out of the showroom. In America too, people have to keep up with the times. The latest model even features a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. The all-electric variant has yet to be officially announced, but Ford has already released some information about it. For example, the electric F-150 will have two electric motors that together have to deliver more power and torque than “all versions of the F-150 that are available today”. Since the current F-150 Raptor has 450 hp, that is very promising. In addition, Ford promises that the ‘total cost of ownership’ compared to an F-150 on fuel will be no less than 40 percent lower.

Ford does not yet make any statements about the capacity of the batteries and the range. However, the electric F-150 will get a big ‘frunk’ where the engine would otherwise be. Just like the regular F-150, the electric variant also gets the Pro Power Onboard system, with which the pick-up can function as a mobile generator for various electrical devices. Finally, Ford will provide the electric F-150 with over-the-air updates, which indicates the presence of SYNC4. Ford will build the electric F-150 on US soil in a newly developed factory complex near the historic ‘Rouge’ factory in Dearborn. Unfortunately for those interested: he is not yet coming to the Netherlands.
