Ford has put the new hybrid variants of both the S-Max and the Galaxy in the spotlight. The two hybrid space giants are not coming to the Netherlands, although it is always interesting to see what exactly passes the noses of the Dutch consumer.
At the beginning of last year, Ford already paid some attention to the hybrid versions of the S-Max and Galaxy, which have been discontinued in the Netherlands since 2018, although we had to do with very limited information for the time being. The two hybrid ballrooms are now in more detail.
Ford S-Max Hybrid (interior)
S-Max Hybrid
The S-Max Hybrid is, as said, the hybrid variant of the S-Max, but then directly from the subtly upgraded variant in 2019 that we have already missed in the Netherlands due to the earlier abandonment of the model. The powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that runs on the Atkinson principle, a machine that has a greater displacement than the 2.0 four-cylinder in the hybrid Mondeo. The petrol engine is linked to an electric motor that together bring the system power to 190 hp and 200 Nm. There is a 1.1 kWh battery pack under the floor of the luggage compartment. The exhaust system has been rerouted for this. The luggage compartment of the S-Max Hybrid is unchanged from that of the regular petrol and diesel flavors. That means that the S-Max with five seats can carry 700 liters and 2,200 liters of stuff with the rear seat folded down. The S-Max Hybrid is also available with seven seats and then – behind the third row – 285 liters of luggage. If you throw the benches flat, the total luggage space of the seven-seater S-Max comes to 2,020 liters.
As a five-seater, the S-Max Hybrid weighs 1,902 kilos, the seven-seater is slightly heavier with 1,947 kilos. In comparison: the S-Max with 150 hp 1.5 Ecoboost weighs about 1,640 kilos, the version with 180 hp 2.0 TDCi diesel engine weighs about 1,724 kilos. The S-Max Hybrid is therefore not a stripe tractor, although its 0-100 time of 9.8 seconds and its top speed of 185 km / h are little inferior to that of the 150 hp petrol version (0- 100 km / h in 9.9 seconds, top speed 200 km / h). The average consumption of the S-Max Hybrid is 6.4 l / 100 km, according to Ford. Depending on the chosen version, you can tow 1,560 to 1,750 kilos with the S-Max Hybrid.
Ford Galaxy Hybrid
Galaxy Hybrid
The Galaxy Hybrid gets the same 190 hp and 200 Nm strong hybrid powertrain as the S-Max. As with the S-Max Hybrid, this is also the subtly renewed variant of the Galaxy in 2019. The luggage compartment of the hybrid seven-seat MPV is also identical to that of the regular petrol and diesel versions. That means: 300 liters of storage space behind the third row of seats. The Galaxy Hybrid needs exactly ten seconds to reach a speed of 100 km / h, its top speed is just like the S-Max at 185 km / h. Ford gives an average consumption of 6.4-6.5 l / 100 km for the Galaxy Hybrid, depending on the chosen wheel size.
As mentioned, the S-Max Hybrid and Galaxy Hybrid are not coming to the Netherlands, but there is a mountain of more relevant hybrid news from Ford in the barrel. The brand will bring 17 electrified models on the European market until the end of the year, although mild-hybrid variants are of course also included in that category.
