Ford scraps diesel version Fiesta

Ford ends the Fiesta with its 1.5 TDCi diesel engine. The sales volume of the diesel version has become too small, according to a response from Ford.

The Ford Fiesta, this year’s most popular Ford model in our country after the Focus, is available with various powertrains. The absolute entry-level model is the 75 hp 1.1, which is only available in combination with the entry-level version Trend. Above that are the 95 hp and 125 hp 1.0 Ecoboost petrol versions, where the 125 hp 1.0 Ecoboost is also available as a mild hybrid. At the top of the power ladder is the 200 hp Fiesta ST. On the Dutch price list you will currently also find one diesel engine, the 85 hp and 215 Nm strong 1.5 TDCi. But not for much longer. Ford is removing the diesel version from the European delivery range.

Ford of Europe says that the diesel version of the Fiesta will be scrapped because of the small share that the 1.5 TDCi has in Fiesta sales. Less than two percent of Ford’s Fiesta sold in Europe has the 1.5 four-cylinder diesel engine under the hood. Production of the diesel version stopped in September. The Fiesta 1.5 TDCi is also no longer available from stock, Ford Netherlands told Techzle. Diesel versions are also less and less popular in the lower segments. Earlier this year it was Volkswagen, among others, that the 1.6 TDI diesel versions from the Dutch range of the Polo cut.
