Spooning an electric powertrain into a classic is a way to translate your classic car into the present. Ford does this in a special way and transplants the powertrain of the Mustang Mach-E GT into a 1978 F-100.
Ford proves that the past can easily be combined with the present by hanging a very potent electric powertrain in a classic pick-up. A 1978 F-100 is fitted with the electrical heart of the most powerful version of the Mustang Mach-E. This means that the 43-year-old pick-up delivers 487 hp and 860 Nm of electrical power thanks to two electric motors. Ford christens the electric old-fashioned F-100 Eluminator.
The F-100 Eluminator serves as one of Ford’s many headliners at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Among other things, the brand draws attention to the fact that you can shop in the Ford Performance Parts catalog for an electric motor that is known as crate engine is sold. The F-100 Eluminator is a typical restomod, which means that not only is the underlying technology modern, but that the pickup is also completely current in other areas. For example, the pick-up gets an almost completely new interior, complete with a large vertically oriented infotainment screen, simple digital instruments, a new steering wheel and a new button island to control the new infotainment.
