We regularly come across beautifully preserved, but once ordinary, cars. Cars that are fun now, purely because you wouldn’t actually expect them to still be there. This Ford Sierra is also one of them.

After the conservative Ford Taunus, the anything but conventional Sierra caused quite a shock and on top of that you couldn’t even get it as a sedan. Ford corrected this with the first facelift, in the year of manufacture of this light green copy: 1987. As a sedan, the Sierra looked a lot more traditional, although the Sierra remained a special appearance with its now largely closed nose. Here in the Netherlands, the facelift and the addition of the Sierra-with-butt Ford certainly did no harm, because 1987 became the most successful sales year for the middle class car. No fewer than 17,366 units were sold over the proverbial counter. With that number you would just end up in the sales top 5 in 2023, the Sierra took sixth place in 1987.

Here we have one of those 17,000 Sierras. It is also one of the 42 Sierras from that year with a valid MOT, according to our data. A fairly rare survivor, although it is basically a fairly simple specimen. We don’t say ‘basically’ for nothing, because it is a CL that has been spruced up a bit over the course of its life. For example, there is a rear spoiler that was not on the official option list for the CL at the time. It also has RS wheels that were of course not fitted when new.

So some work has been done to it, but what does speak for this example is that it belonged to the first owner until 2009. After that it had three more private owners. The stated mileage of around 137,000 km is certainly not surprising, although it may be difficult to prove because of the five-digit odometer. In any case, there seem to be some invoices and maintenance stamps present, so perhaps these provide sufficient clarity. Judging from the photos, it certainly doesn’t look like a worn-out copy. It looks like you also get some cassette tapes and according to the provider, the original radio is also present if you want to put it back. It could be a nice time capsule, this Sierra. Is that worth €4,950? We doubt that, but as always with these types of not very popular cars, there is probably some room for negotiation.
