Ford Taunus (1976) – Into the Wild

The Ford Taunus was once widely represented on the Dutch roads and there are still hundreds of them left. Yet it has been years since one appeared in ‘In the Wild’. High time to put that right.

We were also somewhat surprised when we dug into the archives and saw that the last Ford Taunus TC2 to shine in this section was already spotted five years ago. That was a white Taunus Turnier, now we are dealing with a slightly more dignified one. Colleague Joost Boers captured this red 1.6L.

You could get the ancestor of the Sierra and Mondeo with a fairly wide range of engines at the time. It started with a 55 hp 1.3 and it went on to a 90 hp 2.0 V6 and a 108 hp 2.3-liter variant of the same ‘Cologne’ V6. So with this 1.6 we are dealing with the golden mean. Not surprisingly, it was also one of the most popular choices at the time, especially a relatively simple ‘L’. You could find them on almost every street corner.

Everything about this Taunus radiates that its owner treats it with love. The car looks neat and scores bonus points because it is an original Dutch car. Although it has gone through seven owners in its 45 years of existence, there are many younger cars on the way as well. The current owner has only had it for just under three years and is on the road cheaply thanks to an LPG installation. On to many more beautiful kilometers and keep it tidy!
