Ford Taunus (1982) – Enthusiast Wanted

Homesick for simpler times? With this Ford Taunus you go 40 years back in time in one fell swoop. Not only because of the model, but also because of the condition of the car, it seems.

It was quite a shock when Ford came up with the wind tunnel designed Sierra in 1982. Especially when you consider that you see its direct predecessor in the photos above. The last Ford Taunus was clearly still a car from an earlier era and, despite the still fairly fresh restyling, it was difficult to disguise the fact that the base was already twelve years old. The Taunus that we see here comes from the year that the Sierra appeared and perhaps the first owner just went for the Taunus because the Sierra was not popular. Reportedly, more Taunus drivers were ‘affected’ by this. Anyway; it was apparently a bull’s eye, because according to the provider, the Taunus comes directly from the first (Belgian) owner.

For the sake of convenience, we assume that it can be demonstrated that the Taunus has indeed only had one owner and that the mileage can also be verified. The latter is not an unnecessary luxury given the five-digit counter. At least we would believe it based on the photos. The Taunus has some imperfections here and there, such as a crooked fog lamp and some flash rust on the wheels, but that should certainly not have a name given the age of the car. There also seems to be some color difference between the doors, although that may also be lighting. Speaking of the color: it is wonderfully typical for the time from which the Taunus originates and matches, as it should, neatly with the color of the interior. An interior in which the simplicity of the dashboard jumps out at you, although the ‘wooden’ finish provides a dignified touch.

It was undoubtedly bought with a fairly tight budget, because the Bravo was after all an extra affordable swing-out version and this is also one with 1.6. That combination made it the cheapest Taunus of the moment. Extra nice that one of them turned out to have such a long life. Now it is the turn of a Dutchman to give the Taunus a good old day. Before that party can start, the company in Almelo that offers the Taunus would like to receive €7,950.
