Old-fashioned big
Thanks to the company Hessing, the Ford Taurus was also available in the Netherlands for two generations. However, we never got the sixth and last generation here, except for this copy.
Most likely, there are more Fords Taurus of the generation that stood in American showrooms between 2009 and 2019. It won’t be many, though, because it’s a very American car in everything. The whole segment doesn’t even exist here. After all, ‘our’ Mondeo is already the car that the Americans know as Fusion, a model that is clearly one step below the Taurus. It is again a competitor of the Toyota Avalon and the Chevrolet Impala, all sedans of a size that we can now label as ‘old-fashioned large’. This Taurus was also the very last. Ford announced in 2018 that it would be focusing almost exclusively on SUVs and pickups in the US; the Taurus was among the slain.
The car is big. This Taurus measures 5.15 meters in length, with a width of 1.94 and a height that may also be best with 1.54, for a sedan. What follows is personal, but the undersigned also finds the model very successful. It is sleek, tough and recognizable, with broad shoulders and a stubborn, strikingly sloping back. The Taurus was one of the cars that had the arduous task of replacing the Ford Crown Victoria as a police car. Of course it never became that legendary, but with a ‘push-bar’ and black steel wheels, the Taurus looks undeniably even tougher.
This particular Taurus is, of course, just the civilian version, in neat silver-grey. It is a copy from 2013 and it has the 3.5 liter ‘Cyclone’ V6 that was very popular in all kinds of Ford models. With 287 hp, it is so excellently served. The Ford spotted in Rotterdam has been in the possession of the current owner since 2020, but has been in the Netherlands since 2015.
