Ford wants to keep V8 alive as long as possible

‘The Mustang Mach-E as an electric alternative’

Ford wants to keep V8 alive as long as possible

Despite the fact that Ford, like many other car manufacturers, is increasingly focusing on cars with electrified and fully electric powertrains, there seems to be no hair on Ford’s head thinking about hanging the V8 on the willows.

The V8 is also a rare machine in Ford’s American model range today. Even the Expedition is only available with a V6, so the eight-cylinder at the brand with the blue oval is now reserved for F-Series pick-ups and the Mustang. After all, the Mustang that was helped with a new generation last year also became available again with an eight-cylinder with a swept volume of 5.0 liters. It doesn’t look like Ford is sending the V8 to the afterlife within the next few years.

Jim Owens – Global Brand Manager of the Mustang, tells Australian Drive that Ford wants to keep the Mustang V8 alive as long as possible. That is somewhat striking. It looks like Chevrolet and Dodge will never give their Mustang rivals Camaro and Challenger an eight-cylinder again and switch to six-cylinder and even fully electric powertrains. Ford would just invest in the development of the V8 for the time being. “[…] We continue to invest in the V8, because we have the Mach-E GT that you can choose if you want an electric car,” said the Mustang manager.

The Mustang presented last year is also coming to the Netherlands and even only with a V8. Even the extra potent Mustang Dark Horse is headed our way.
