Ford hopes to take advantage of the current camper craze by offering the Nugget campers on a Ford Transit basis itself.
The Nugget motorhomes aren’t new per se, but the fact that Ford is officially offering them is. The Nuggets are a product of Ford and the German motorhome specialist Westfalia. The motorhomes are based on the Transit Custom, the second largest Transit model in the Ford family. The various Nugget models have in common that they leave the Transit body largely intact. That makes the Nuggets compact campers, comparable to the Volkswagen California and Mercedes V-class Marco Polo.
The Nugget is available in many different versions. There is a version with a lifting roof, as the aforementioned competitors also have. However, there is also a variant with a fixed high roof, which therefore has a rather remarkable appearance. The ‘high’ Nugget is also available in an extra long version. Each model has a three-seater bench seat in the second row and an L-shaped kitchen in the rear. All versions also get four berths.
For rugged types, the Nugget is also available as a Trial, an extra rugged version with a grille reminiscent of that of the Ford Raptor. Four-wheel drive is also not there, but a limited slip differential is. Ford supplies a number of different diesel engines in the Nugget and offers a choice of manual or automatic transmission.
October 1 seems a somewhat strange time to announce a camper, but Ford states that thanks to a heated rear seat, the Nugget can also be used when it gets a bit colder. This sofa can be transformed into a bed and can also be heated, so the cold will indeed no longer be a problem. The Nugget enjoyment starts at €69,696, but can undoubtedly also be considerably more expensive.
