Former Porsche designer patents new supercar

Techzle has surfaced patent drawings of a new supercar. The as yet unknown sports car is drawn by none other than Pinky Lai Ping.

Techzle has turned up an interesting set of patent sketches in the database of the Japanese patent office. The patent plates submitted and just published at the end of last year show a supercar of unknown manufacture. The supercar obviously equipped with a mid-engine has a relatively modest design with a rounded nose in which fairly simple-looking headlights are fitted. The still unnamed newcomer, which from the side is somewhat reminiscent of the profile of the Audi R8, has a rear in which the diffuser appears to be divided over two layers. The round rear lights incorporated deep into the buttocks have a turbine-like appearance, just like the wheels. The doors extend deep into the roof in a similar way to the Ford GT reborn in 2005.

Pinky Lai patent

The patent application was filed by a company called Automobile Ping Pinky Lai. That is exactly what makes this mysterious newcomer interesting. Pinky Lai was responsible for the exterior design of various Porsche models between 1989 and 2014, including the ‘spiegelei-911’ (996) and the second-generation Porsche Cayman and Boxster. The Hong Kong-born designer is responsible for the exterior of the third-generation BMW 3-series (E36). Pinky Lai has previously gained experience at Ghia.

Pinky Lai is currently chairman and CEO of Brainchild Design Consultants, according to his Linkedin page, so the designer is clearly still active in the design field. It is not inconceivable that the car on the patent plates is a design study for a Chinese manufacturer. Hopefully, more will become clear later about this special sports fanatic.
